Some think that it is important to secularize Islam, to bring Islam into conformity with the modern world by modifying or excising those aspects of it that contradict the supposed requirements of reason and liberal sensibility.
I say, let’s Islamicize secularism.
To do so, simply modify or excise those aspects of secularism that contradict the requirements of (true) reason and Islamic law.
The result of this process will be an “Islamic secularism” that is just as secular as “secular Islam” is Islamic. Which is to say, not at all.
