The tragedy is that you can’t talk about God with people nowadays without looking like an alien from another planet.

To bring it up is uncouth. It’s just not polite conversation material. People will happily talk about their deepest political beliefs, their views on highly contentious issues regarding race, immigration, criminal justice reform, or whatever else. That’s acceptable.

But what you hold to be true about the fundamental purpose of life and where we come from, where we’re headed, who we’re ultimately accountable to, etc., that’s kind of passe and sometimes very uncomfortable.

As Muslims, how do we get past that reticence, especially on a wider scale, is the big question.
