If you have influence in the Muslim community and are endorsing a candidate for government office, you need to be honest and upfront about your involvement, if any, with that candidate or his/her party as well as how much the party of that candidate has personally and directly benefited you, your career, or your business.

Some people are out there telling everyone “candidate x is the best thing since sliced bread and will definitely be on the Muslim community’s side,” when they have been getting all kinds of access, grants, sponsorships, and appointments from that candidate’s party.

That’s fine but that needs to be disclosed so that everyone can understand where these endorsements are coming from. It’s called transparency, which I realize is not a value our community has placed much stock in over the years.
