Here is a question for you all. You know those videos they make with Muslims saying things like, “I’m Muslim but I drink, sleep around, eat bacon, am gay, etc.,” basically trying to normalize Muslims in the eyes of the dominant culture? (Example posted in the comments.)

Well, do those videos help or hurt the Muslims?

The normalization aspect very well might convert some Islamophobes into being less hostile to Muslims. Isn’t that a good thing? Shouldn’t we support the making of these videos? Shouldn’t we support Muslims going on TV and news programs and putting out that perspective? Even if we disagree with the content, isn’t there a net positive effect?

I’m wondering what Muslims in general, i.e., you all think and how you would argue your case.

This is an important thing to understand so please chime in.
