The Language of Identity Politics Is Not Out Language

Muslims: the language of identity politics is not our language, is not our moral universe, even when it benefits us. Our language is oppression vs. justice, theft vs. sadaqah, harm vs. benefit, batil vs. haqq, and our moral universe, the sharia, is much more comprehensive, rational, and in line with the creation.

And some of it is in service of oppression, distraction, and further harming the needy. Therefore, use your words wisely lest you fall into becoming an advocate for tyrants, thinking that you are supporting the downtrodden.

  1. السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Could you clarify what exactly identity politics is and why, as Muslims, we shouldn’t adopt it? If I, as a Muslim, were to fight for the rights of Muslims, is that an issue? In another article you have mentioned that this renders Islam as merely an identity instead of a religion. What does that exactly mean? Could you provide some examples where identity politics would actually be in service of oppression? What about the idea of Al-wala’ wa-l-bara? Is there a connection with identity politics?
    Jazakallah
