Serving Allah as Compared to Serving Humanity

Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The person who strives on behalf of the widows and poor is like those who strive in the way of Allah and like those who fast in the day and pray at night.” [al-Adab al-Mufrad]

In these days of secular humanism, where humanitarianism has been defined as encompassing all that is good and righteous while acts of worship are seen as relatively less meaningful, impactful, practical, and important, the converse but equivalent implication of this hadith should also be noted:

Those who strive in the way of Allah and fast in the day and pray at night are like those who strive on behalf of the widows and the poor.
