The intellectual arrogance of those who disbelieve in God is not something new. Portraying believers as weak minded and gullible is not something new.

Look at how the people of Noah (s) reacted to his message:

“The chiefs of the disbelievers among his people said: “We see you but a man like ourselves, nor do we see any follow you but the lowest among us and they (too) followed you without thinking. And we do not see in you any merit above us, in fact we think you are liars.” [11:27]

The tafasir of this verse mention that the elite of Noah’s society viewed his followers as low class, simple-minded, and easily manipulated, implying that these followers are, unlike themselves, too stupid and gullible to realize that Noah is lying to them.

These elites also look down on Noah, saying that there’s nothing special about him. They treat this Messenger of God with contempt and utter disrespect and basically say that only stupid people would see anything special about him.

Remind you of anyone in today’s world?
