This post is in response to the 2016 Democratic National Convention leaks about corruption in the Democratic party.

Thank God we live in the liberal democracy that is the United States. Unlike in developing, nondemocratic countries, our elections aren’t rigged to favor specific individuals. There’s no behind the scenes wheeling and dealing and corruption to subvert the will of the people.

In countries like Turkey, the political process systematically stifles the ability of competing factions to have any chance of gaining power. Can you imagine living in a country without any meaningful choice, just the same one or two parties occupying all political positions and there be no realistic way of voting them out? What a nightmare!

The other thing plaguing these nondemocratic states is nepotism. You have one president and then when his term is done, he uses his political power to get his son or his brother or even his wife into power. How crazy is that? But not the good ol’ US of A. All our political leaders and presidential candidates gain power through merit and democratic selection alone.

In some of these plutacratic authoritarian countries, you can easily see how money buys you influence and political clout in spite of the interests of the nation. Donate enough money and you can buy yourself a spot in the administration of the president. I mean, these people have no shame!

The world could learn a lot by taking a page from our book. Let freedom ring!
