This is one among multiple reasons why an individual witness’ testimony about events in the distant past should not be taken at face value. It may not be that the witness or alleged victim has outright lied. They just may be suffering from false memories based on all the factors this “memory hacker” explains.

According to her, it is easy to convince someone that he himself committed a crime in the past. How much more easy is it to convince someone that someone else committed a crime against him? Implanting false memories like this is a staple of law enforcement and criminal justice.
