Roger Cohen argues that liberalism is dead because tyrants have become ascendant around the world.

This is rich. All the problems he describes are the very fruits of liberalism. Just consider the authoritarianism in the Middle East today. Most of these brutal dictators were and are liberal in their orientation. It was liberals who cheered for Sisi in Egypt and encouraged the bloody crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood and other manifestations of political Islam. We saw the same thing happening in Syria, Iraq, and North Africa, and the result was that a more violent, blood-thirsty iteration of political Islam emerged. Now these hypocrites want to distance themselves from their harvest. But nothing will wash away the blood on their liberal, bourgeois hands.
