Old Pervez is at it again!
Why are Arabs so powerless? What is Israel’s “secret weapon”?
“A system of organised thought based upon a rational and secular approach to life, a modern system of justice, and a new set of social relations.”
First of all, does Pervez not realize that Israel is not secular but is actually a Jewish country whose laws are based in Judaism and fall under the authority of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel?
Pervez must have missed that detail.
What is the source of Muslim “powerlessness” then? Pervez says:
“No university here has a bookshop, a centre for students that hums with open debate and discussion, or a theatre where classic movies are screened.”
Oh no! No theatre for classic movies?! No wonder Palestinians are getting bombed and Pakistan lags on the world arena: No classical movie theatres!
In the article, Hoodbhoy wants to go on his usual rant, that the main problem is “lack of education.” But he realizes he can’t make that argument because there are many universities and research institutes all over the Muslim world, especially the Arab world, churning out science PhDs.
Plus, the “lack of education” argument doesn’t work when the entire world is connected to the internet and even the most remote village can now take open-access courses at MIT and Harvard.
So if educational opportunity is not the problem, what is?
Pervez has a brilliant answer:
“But the two groups have different attitudes towards success and different role models. The Ashkenazi child wants to be Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, John von Neumann, George Wald, Paul Samuelson, Gertrude Elion, Ralph Lauren, George Soros […] Compare this with the Arab boy who wants to be Salahuddin Ayubi and the Pakistani lad who dreams of becoming Ertugrul Ghazi.”
Ah! So that’s the problem! Arabs and Muslims are powerless because of an attitude problem! We just don’t have the right attitude. We just don’t have the right “success” mindset that Israelis, Americans, and the British have. If only we could fix our attitude, all these problems would melt away!
As amazingly brilliant as Pervez’s diagnosis is, I’m left with a couple of questions.
First of all, we all know how Muslims suffer a bad attitude which creates the powerlessness.
What about powerless non-Muslim Africa? Are they also suffering an attitude problem?
What about powerless non-Muslim South America? Are they also suffering an attitude problem?
What about powerless non-Muslim South East Asia? Or Eastern Europe? Or Pacific Islanders?
Are all these powerless regions suffering from an attitude problem?
Surprisingly, the only people with the right attitude on the planet are Americans, Western Europeans, and Israelis. Everyone else is too dumb to realize that with a simple attitude adjustment, they too can become big powerful superpowers that can bomb poor people at will.
Pervez has no answer to these questions because he can’t think outside 200 year-old Enlightenment drivel he swallowed from the British. Pervez’s talking points are literally 200 years old and he hasn’t updated them one iota. It’s kind of sad.
What is most pathetic about these upper-class, educated, secular desis (and Arabs, Persians, Malaysians, Turks, etc.) is that they have been pushing the same lines about science, reason, blah blah blah for decades now.
But these same people have the PhDs. They have the “right attitude.” What have they produced in all this time? Where is the amazing, world-changing contribution of Hoodbhoy and his elite friends and fans? Have they added anything (other than hot air)?
