Risala Foundation, a self-described “big tent Muslim organisation” based in Texas, have invited a singer-songwriter who brags about subverting the Pakistani Muslim community.
In their concert last month, which they advertised as one that showcased “the depth of the Islamic tradition – mixing East and West and the modern and the ancient”, Risala Foundation gave platform to Ali Sethi.
For those unaware, Sethi recently released a song promoting LGBT lifestyles. The song is blocked on YouTube in Pakistan.
Here is an informative video breaking down the subversive and disturbing messaging in it.
But to summarise, it showcases various kinds of LGBT couples while describing this kind of “love” in glowing terms.
To be sure, this is an abominable corruption of the concept of love itself.
This should be no surprise to those familiar with Ali Sethi, who openly gloated in interviews to western publications about how his façade as a “Sufi singer” allows him to smuggle in degeneracy into otherwise conservative communities “through the metaphors of Sufi poetry.”
In traditional music, he has found room for musical experimentation and an avenue for his own “language of dissent.” Sufi songs, in particular, lend themselves to multiple interpretations; the same verses, Sethi says, may be read as the story of a love affair, or a heartbroken letter to an unjust society, or a dialogue with the divine. For centuries, Sufi poets have dealt with topics like gender identity, sexuality, cultural difference, and political strife. “The poems are so extremely inclusive,” he says. “And the appetite for Sufi music in Pakistan allows people like me to get away with a lot of potentially subversive stuff through the metaphors of Sufi poetry—these beautiful, deliberate ambiguities.”
As if all this wasn’t bad enough, Sethi also uses his image as an “icon of men’s fashion in Pakistan” to “smash gender norms.”
While his messaging may have gone over the heads of many unsuspecting Muslims, who by the goodness of their hearts assume the best of people’s actions and intentions, it hasn’t been missed by western publications who share his agenda.
“Where forbidden lovers meet.” Not burying the lead, eh?
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) cursed those men who are in the similitude (assume the manners) of women and those women who are in the similitude (assume the manners) of men. [Sahih al-Bukhari 5885]
It is important for Muslims to realize how subversion works. Giant steps and leaps into decadence is much less common than a gradual drift towards evil through complacency. Taqwa and virtue requires one to be ever vigilant. Without vigilance, men and societies degenerate.
The West is perhaps the greatest visible example of this. Seeing how they are now, one often forgets that sodomy was a crime in the US as recently as 1955, and 1967 in the UK. The West’s gradual fall from a deeply religious and conservative social order into becoming a latter day Qawm Lut has been an ongoing process since the “Enlightenment.”
Each step of the way, rationalised through “enlightened” notions of secular humanism, chipped away at the religious social order. The process of decay gained momentum as it progressed, to where nowadays we fail to keep up with the new types of depravities they conjure up. This all started through vague notions of “tolerance.”
The message to take away should be clear for us: One should never be so sure of his society’s virtue and piety as to think it will resist all incursion. It is the nature of subversion and the tactic of the would-be subverters that the frog is boiled slowly, but whether it takes ten, a hundred, or a thousand years their end goals are the same.
The Quran, Sunnah, and more than a millennium of luminous Islamic tradition is all the advantage we need to not end up like they have, as long as we are diligent in their study and application.
Selling Liberalization as “Tradition”
Browsing the Risala Foundation site and seeing their main featured speakers, the message is clear. They are selling liberal feminist ideology as “traditional” Islam. They proudly list among their honored speakers outright deviants and Zionist sell-outs like: Wajahat Ali, Khalid Latif, Dalia Mogahed, Haroon Moghul, as well as kuffar like: Reza Aslan and Craig Considine.
“American Islam” has become so absolutely toxic that “traditional” orgs like this regularly features a mix of brazen pro-LGBT activists with stoic shaykhs quoting 1000 year-old fiqh texts. This is the worst type of subversion of deen. And it is destroying the Muslim community in America.
Shame on any imam or scholar who knows better yet allows the piety, knowledge, and spirituality he is supposed to represent be exploited by these rotten orgs.
