Recently, the UK army organized a camp for Muslim women to provide them a taste of life in the army. According to a tweet by the BBC Asian Network, the UK army is looking for more Muslim women to join.
“The Army want more Muslims, especially women, to join the forces. As it stands only a tiny fraction of the 500 Muslims are female and now, regular activity days are being held for them get a taste of what to expect.”
But was this really a taste of what to expect as a female military officer? Well, let’s look at the past 10-20 years to find out what exactly are the perks that the armed forces provide women in these liberal western nations. This is what Jane Harman wrote in an article in the Los Angeles Times on the horrific treatment of women in the US armed forces.
“Women serving in the U.S. military are more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire in Iraq.”
Yes, you read it right. Women in the US army could face more harm from their fellow men soldiers than the enemy. Remember, these are not words of some, as liberalism would portray, “backward thinking,” “unliberated” Muslim women. These are words of a woman, born and raised in a western liberal society, who once chaired the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Intelligence. Harman’s words are based on the following data:
“41% of female veterans seen at the clinic (VA health care center) say they were victims of sexual assault while in the military, and 29% report being raped during their military service.”
If the men in the armed forces are subjugating the women to rape and sexual assaults, imagine what would they do to the women of their enemy. According to a factsheet from Veterans administration, 1 in 3 women report military sexual trauma.
It turns out that the treatment of women in the UK military is even worse. According to a parliamentary report presented in the Guardian, nearly 2 in 3 women in the UK military have faced abuse of some form.
“Almost two-thirds of women in the armed forces have experienced bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination during their career, according to a parliamentary report that says the UK military is “failing to protect” female recruits.”
No wonder the number of personnel in the UK army has been declining over the years. The number of personnel in the UK armed forces were 305,800 in 1990. As of 2020, there are 145,000 personnel serving in the British army with only 500 Muslims. That’s 0.003% of Muslims in the British army. It seems the military’s focus is more on increasing “diversity” and not addressing the cruel treatment of women in the military.
The treatment of women in the armies of these colonizers is in stark contrast to the treatment of women in Islam. Yvonne Ridley, a British journalist, was captured by Taliban in 2001. In her book, ‘In the Hands of the Taliban’ she mentions the courteous treatment of Taliban men and was amazed by their respectful behavior. And she said all this not when she was in captivity, but after she was released. And she accepted Islam.
So, the questions for Muslim women living in the UK is: Is it worth joining the UK army as a Muslim woman? Is it worth risking your honor, respect, and chastity to be maligned for the rest of your life? Is it worth living with sexual trauma for the rest of your life? And even if you manage to avoid being assaulted by a fellow soldier, you would be supporting the regimes that initiated the unjust “War on Terror.” Regimes that have bombed innocent civilian Muslim populations and yet have the audacity to not claim any responsibility for their horrid crimes.
Compare this to what Islam promises women. Women do not have a responsibility to find a job and earn money to support their family. Before marriage, this is the responsibility of their fathers and later, their husbands, to ensure that they have all the necessities of life.
According to the Holy Quran (4:34):
“Men are caretakers of women, since Allah has made some of them excel the others, and because of the wealth they have spent. So, the righteous women are obedient, (and) guard (the property and honor of their husbands) in (their) absence with the protection given by Allah. As for women of whom you fear rebellion, convince them, and leave them apart in beds, and beat them. Then, if they obey you, do not seek a way against them. Surely, Allah is the Highest, the Greatest.”
