India’s Hindutva political wing has been a magnet for Islamophobes that exhibit odd and grotesque conduct — which might partly explain why India has a poor track record when it comes to keeping women safe.
When they aren’t advocating mass rape of Muslim women, Hindutva-sympathizers attempt to sell Muslim women (derogatorily regarded as “Bullis” and “Sulliss”) in mock human auctions done over the internet.
Yes, they are that pathetic.
On January 1, Quratulain Rehbar, a journalist from Indian-administered Kashmir, woke up to see herself listed for an “online auction”. Her photograph was sourced without her permission and uploaded on an app for “sale”
Photographs of more than 100 Muslim women, including prominent actress Shabana Azmi, wife of a sitting judge of Delhi High Court, multiple journalists, activists and politicians were displayed on the app for auction as “Bulli Bai” of the day.
The mastermind behind the app was recently caught by the New Delhi police who in turn revealed a deeply disturbing characterization of the alleged perpetrator.
Suspected Bulli Bai’ app creator, 20-year-old Niraj Bishnoi had 153 porn film downloads and lewd, sexual content in his laptop, sources in the Delhi Police claimed Thursday. The evidence in his laptop suggest Bishnoi is a “porn addict” and “has abnormal desires towards elderly Muslim women”
Bishnoi is also being investigated for his role in “Sulli Deals,” a now defunct website that was set up last year which also posted Muslim women for mock auctions.
While the depth of the situation is still unfolding, the reality is that these students are likely the least of the Ummah’s problems. Trolls can’t compare to some of the most repulsive individuals that Hindu nationalism proliferates (even by right-wing standards).
Hundreds of right-wing Hindu activists and monks rose in unison at a conference this week to take an oath: They would turn India, constitutionally a secular republic, into a Hindu nation, even if doing so required dying and killing.
“If 100 of us are ready to kill two million of them, then we will win and make India a Hindu nation,” said Pooja Shakun Pandey, a leader of Hindu Mahasabha, a group that espouses militant Hindu nationalism
The crowded auditorium…included influential religious leaders with close ties to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governing party, and even some members of the party.
Compared to advocating crusade against Muslims all over India, is the inconsequential Bulli Bai and Sulli Deals fiasco such a big deal?
Shouldn’t Indians be more worried about total societal collapse and genocide via Hindutva evil and idiocy rather than perverse college students operating troll websites?
