Who can seriously believe that Islam and the dialectical materialism of Marxism are compatible?
In fact, not even General Barre himself.
Indeed, an “insider,” Sheikh Maxamad Garyare, exposed his true agenda as early as 1972, as quoted by Abdurahman Abdullahi in his The Islamic Movement in Somalia, p. 209:
I was assigned to write the President’s speech and was later instructed to deliver it on behalf of the President. I was the Director of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The speech was approved by the President and we had distributed it to all Muslim embassies. However, the speech contained clauses which said that Somali Socialism is “Islamic Socialism”. The speech was widely reported in the local media which angered the leftists and lead socialist country embassies to protest. As a result, the President made another speech. This was the historic speech in which the president said: “our Socialism is not Islamic, is not African, it is Marxism-Leninism”.
So General Barre finally admitted his religion, and like every self-respecting Marxist-Leninist believer, he began attacking Islam and its symbols: in 1975 he executed around ten Islamic scholars who rose against this attempt at “mixing” Islam and Marxism or, more likely, replacing the former by the latter.
In his recent book Shari‘a, Inshallah, p. 136, Mark Fathi Massoud says that he abolished even religious titles such as shaykh or sultan.
Imagine the hate for Islam!
He’s The One Who Made Somalia A “Failed State”
We often hear from the secularist Western media that Somalia is a “failed state” mainly because of the so-called “anarchy.”

In 2007, Peter Leeson, an American professor of economics who belongs to the Austrian School, penned an article for the Journal of Comparative Economics: “Better off stateless: Somalia before and after government collapse.”
Leeson argues that post-1991 “anarchic” Somalia in fact saw more “progress,” even from secular standards, than what was made under General Barre, who’s socialist handling of economy, with its central planning and misguided industrialization programs in an overtly nomadic and agrarian society, as well as his ethnic tribalism, basically made lives nightmarish for virtually all Somali civilians.
In p. 694 of the journal he describes General Barre’s economic results:
By the late 1980s the weight of nearly 20 years of rampant corruption, repression, and state control had reduced Somali welfare to horrifically low levels. Well prior to the government’s collapse the agricultural economy was in shambles, and malnutrition and starvation were common place. In the 1980s Somalia had one of the lowest per capita caloric intakes in the world.
So is that what secular, Marxist, materialistic rule forced upon the peoples of Islam looks like?
That even anarchy is better than government!
Links With Ilhan Omar?
The family of Ilhan Omar has well-attested links with the Marxist dictator.

Kyle Hooten writes for The Tennessee Star:
During his rule, Barre used the military that Omar’s father helped lead to rape, terrorize and pillage his own countrymen. He eventually committed a genocide of the Isaaq people, killing as many as 200,000 civilians in the late 1980s.
Despite this brutality, Omar’s father served again in 1982 to bolster Barre’s regime during a new era of even more extreme violence.
In 1982 Omar’s father led a reserve brigade in the Somali-Ethiopian Border War. Also during this time, Barre tapped the military to police civilians with results that were disastrous to human rights.
“Our family was no longer welcome,” the congresswoman told City Pages during an interview about her family’s escape from Somalia. She did not specify why they were no longer welcome.
Her family split into groups to escape the revolution. Her group ended up in Kenya thanks to connections her grandfather (Barre’s National Marine Transport Director) had, she explained to City Pages in 2016.
By the time these militias forced Omar’s family out of their compound, the president her father fought to legitimize had already completed his genocide of 200,000 Isaaq people and solidified his reputation as a human rights abuser famed for spreading torture and depravity.
